Afternoon update
Test images of the geostrophic velocity plots. Earlier am plots were referenced to surface. In these plots gvel(:,:,x)-gvel(:,:,3000) was plotted. So these plots are as referenced to the lowest depth. Figured id see if this made any sort of difference.

Here are the data point counts, floatday counts mean temperature and velocity quiver for all data points in the 800-1200db pressure range. Additionally i went back and fixed the mean_v and mean_u 2* by 2* plots. I had the scale set wrong on the colorbar. It corresponds better now to the quiver plot i think.





and here are the same results plotted for only the 800-1000db range. Carter had mentioned it may be useful to narrow the region even further.

These are the averages calculated for the five by five degree bin grid for comparison. Imma get all the u't' u'v' stuff for both the 2 and 5 just for comparison sake to see how it all changes.

This image shows the mean U velocity in each 2 degree by 2 degree bin. While the following picture shows the mean V velocity for each corresponding bin. It seems pretty clear that the mean V velocity field is far more negative than the mean U field. The mean u velocity values seem to hang closely to zero or slightly positive while V mean velocities are distinctly negative.

This plot shows the mean pressure in each 2 degree by 2 degree bin


this plot shows the mean temperatures per bin. There is a significant warm stripe
around 30n which i assume is the gulf stream?



This is a plot of the floatdays available per bin. It shows the # of days drifters were in that bin
bin spacing is 2* by 2*


This plot shows the number of datapoints availiable per bin.

This figure shows the percentage of data that is missing from each drifters total record.
Each drifter ID # corresponds to one drifter. The list correlating drifter ID #s to actual
drifter name and experiment is at the bottom of the page and is really long as there are 1200 drifters.
All of these are new and remade after discovering that the data from ken speers at FSU is the
same as the data on the woce website from the Brazil Basin using drifter IDs 'DBW'.



This figure is showing the # of days between data points. As before each drifter Id can be referenced
to its actual ID name using the list below. In calculating this plot, the number of days between each data
point was calculated. These values were then averaged so each drifter had an average time between readings.
The averages were very representative of the overal values as they did not tend to deviate from each other.
Its pretty clear that more than half of the drifters have one day between each data point.


This image shows a histogram of the depths at every data point. This is not an averaged histogram as was
with the frequency of readings plot.


This plot shows all of the drifter tracks.


This is the data seperated into five degree by five degree bins. This is the corrected image after
removing the repetitive data from ken speers.
