Station 144 is Station of the Day for 2/3/06. It was a beautiful morning over the Southern Ocean at 56 S 76 W. Already we've had many more sunny days on this cruise than on the entire winter cruise. Bottle 21 is still causing problems. We exacerbated those problems today by attempting a too-complex fix. We probably spent fifteen minutes discussing which bottle closed where with which trip. And for our troubles, bottles 35 and 36 didn't close. Regardless, it was a gorgeous morning. The cast went quite quickly because the ocean was so calm. It was our first cast where we didn't have to anxiously watch the tensions. As we were steaming away from the station a rainbow formed between the layers of clouds opposite the sun.
