Here we're sampling Station 213's water. Scott is reaching over the rosette to crack open the vent on a bottle. He goes first because he samples oxygens. To his left is Parisa, the sample cop. She writes down the oxygen draw temperatures and keeps us in line. She is supposed to let us know which bottles to sample, but mostly she is good at confusing herself, and often we keep her in line. She entertains me while I run the CTD console. Last night she watched "March of the Penguins" and decided that she is going to marry a penguin. Penguin husbands are clean, they babysit for months at a time, and you can get a new one after a year. David, to Scott's right, is sampling salts. Heather uses two whole niskin bottles. She filters all of the water and freezes the filters. It's some bio stuff that I know nothing about. She stores the filters in a vat of liquid O2, so it looks cool.
Here is the lab bulliten board. It has some amusing postings. Everyday the Chileans write predictions for the day. Today they predicted that more stations would be cut, to which Bernadette wrote a reply in all caps. It was wine night, so Lucian advertised dancing at a lab party. After our watch Dan and I played some cribbage. I had a massive win streak going (all beginner's luck), but today Dan won four in a row. He was crowned "Wine Day Champion."
